NIBR Decorated Villages’ brooks with Korean Native Plants
NIBR has planted with 6,100 Korean native plants to save brooks in Asan city in collaboration with 100 villagers and public officials from Chooncungnam-do provincial government.
NIBR has chosen 3 native plants for this project which are Iris sanguinea Donn ex Hornem, Iris setosa Pall. ex Link, and Iris ensata var. spontanea (Makino) Nakai. They are well known plants for water purification and beautiful shapes. NIBR signed an MOU with Chooncungnamdo last December to improve areas nearby brooks and conserve the region’s biodiversity. Under the MOU, NIBR selected 5 different Korean native plants and planted 4,200 of them in villages of Asan city this April and May. Dr. Min Hwan Suh, Director General of Biological Resources Research Dept., NIBR said: “NIBR will actively cooperate with local governments so as to make more beautiful and ecofriendly brooks by providing Korean native plants to the local authorities.
